Accommodation and meals
We normally offer accommodation to all undergraduates throughout the duration of their course, but because of refurbishment and other building projects we cannot guarantee that this accommodation will always be in College-owned buildings. Where possible, Queen’s will accommodate undergraduate students during vacations when they need access to libraries or other academic facilities. Of course, with buildings of such age, the type of room varies immensely, from modern, clean-cut rooms in the Florey and Cardo buildings to traditional wood-panelled ‘sets’ consisting of a sitting room and bedroom in the eighteenth-century main buildings. Every College room is fully furnished and has central heating and a sink, and an Ethernet connection for high-speed internet access. Undergraduates may also choose to live out at any point during their course. Visiting students and second BA students cannot be guaranteed College accommodation, although every effort will be made to accommodate them.
Postgraduates have self-catering facilities and en suite rooms in the modern St Aldate’s House, which is close to the centre of town. Additional accommodation is offered in our Oxley-Wright Building in Banbury Road, which is close to the University Science Area. Single graduates are normally offered year-round accommodation in one of the College’s annexes for two years of their study. However, accommodation is not provided for PGCE students and is only provided for two of the five MBA students admitted each year (on a first come first served basis).
Three meals a day are provided in the Hall for all members of the College: full cooked breakfasts and a café-style lunch are provided on a self-service basis, and dinner is served at two sittings in the early evening. Special meals are laid on for undergraduate and postgraduate guest nights (on Saturdays and Mondays respectively) and there are many formal dinners for particular College societies and subject groups every year. Full breakfasts are also served in the Florey and Cardo buildings, and snacks and drinks are provided in the Junior and Middle Common Rooms. Vegetarians are, of course, well catered for at all meals.
