Built by benefactors

Throughout its 668-year history, Queen’s has been fortunate to benefit from many generous benefactors. In the late seventeenth century Sir Joseph Williamson and Provost Lancaster paid for much of the great rebuilding programme which gave the College two magnificent quadrangles. Later, Lady Elizabeth Hastings endowed scholarships to enable poor, bright boys from Yorkshire, Cumbria, and Westmorland to come to Queen’s. In more recent times Henry Laming gave generously to bolster the strength of Modern Languages; and since the College began fund-raising in earnest in the twenty-first century, many other Old Members have contributed enthusiastically to our future plans.

Like most Oxford colleges, we are once again appealing for donations. The pages in this section of the website outline why we need your support, and how you can give.
