Pendry, Robert.
1974-1977
-
Robert studied Geography while at Queen's and went on to acquire a PGCE at Reading University. He married Ros Birch (St. Hilda's) n The Queen's College chapel in 1979. After several years at Luton 6th Form College teaching A-Level Geography he moved into administration and spent 2 profoundly unhappy years as an LEA Education Officer in St. Helens, Merseyside. He then decided to return to teaching and retrained as a Primary school teacher. After a move back down South to rural Wiltshire, he now lives in a C15th thatched cottage, in an idyllic village, with his wife and daughters Ruth (20) and Hannah (17). He has continued to work as a Primary classroom teacher, mostly in the same school. After his experiences in St. Helens, he has consciously decided to avoid the additional stresses of any managerial posts and is content to be a simple country schoolmaster. Despite this, he has studied part-time with the Open University and has acquired an Advanced Diploma in Educational Management and an M.A. in Education. He is also part way through an Open University Ed.D. (doctorate). In recent years he has made two abortive attempts to work form home as a specialist travel agent in the cruise industry. While this did not result in a profitable business, it had some most enjoyable perks!
