Ainsley, Rob. 1979-1982
Rob read Maths at Queen's. He is now a writer and journalist who has written several books including the Bluffer's Guides to Computers, the Internet, Mathematics and Japan, and edited the Carlton Ultimate Encyclopaedia of Classical Music. His latest book, Otehon wa eikokuryu, has just come out in Japan (in Japanese!).
Barker, John William. 1975-1976
For the last twelve years working as an international consultant, in particular assisting Central and Eastern European countries to prepare for accession to the European Union. Currently based in Bucharest. The family home is in England, and one daughter, Sally, is currently in her second year at Queen's reading French and Spanish.
Barker, Trevor. 1979-1986
Trevor read Chemistry at Queen's before joining Logica UK where he is now a Technical Consultant. Trevor is married (to Zoe) with 2 children (Michael and Piers). While at Oxford he gained four half-blues for Archery, and since then he has been seen helping the Normans to defeat the Englisc at the Battle of Hastings (the big re-enactments in 2000 and 2006 that is); Englisc is the intended spelling by the way.
Behrendt, Gerhard. 1979-1982
After obtaining the D.Phil. in Mathematics, Gerhard worked for several years as lecturer at the University of Tübingen. In 1994 he swapped discrete mathematics for discreet mathematics, working in cryptology for the Federal Government of Germany. He lives in Bonn, is married and has two children.
Berners-Lee, Tim. 1973-1976
Inventor of the WWW, Tim graduated with a 1st class honours degree in Physics from Queen's.
Bertram, Chris. 1979-1982
(Update to previous entry) Chris read Music at Queen's under James Dalton, then switched tack completely, and currently works in IT for Cap Gemini Ernst & Young as a Senior Analyst, specialising in Programme Management. Married with 2 children, he still finds time to play in the Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra, where he is the principal viola. Would like to hear from any of his contemporaries at Queen's.
Blackburn, Chris. 1978-1982
Following a decade in marketing & advertising based in London in the 1980s, Chris returned to the 'other' university in Oxford where he has held a succession of academic & management roles. He was appointed Associate Dean of the Faculty of Business in 2010. Married to Honor, a BBC news producer and Oxford magistrate with a daughter Isabel (b.2001)
Brenner, Albert John. 1973-1975
After studying PPE at Queen's, AJ Brenner studied philosophy at Yale before becoming a banker. He is now the executive managing director of Asset Allocation Parametrics, an investment research and advisory firm he founded in 2005. He also serves as an adjunct professor at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven,Connecticut where he teaches corporate finance.

Richard now works at the Department of Psychology, Institute of Psychiatry, De Crespigny Park, London.
Browning, John. 1968-1971
John read Modern History at Queen's before emigrating to Australia in 1975. He is now an Area Supervisor of Schools with Catholic Education, Archdiocese of Brisbane, Queensland.
Byrne, Michael. 1972-1975
Old members may remember Michael as playing the fanfare on the College trumpet outside the buttery each evening before dinner. He says he thinks they used to have bets on which note he would split that particular evening. Michael has obtained a 1st class BA in Maths with the Open University (1992). He is currently studying with the Open University for a Bsc in Science. He is also studying for an AAT qualification in Accounting. At present he is self-employed, tutoring in Music, Maths and Science, and preparing accounts for small businesses.
Clapper, Andrew. 1974-1978
Andrew is now living in Lymington, Hampshire and is an Executive Director with Hampshire Partnership NHS Trust.
Clarkson, Peter Alan. 1976-1983
After going down he did postdoctoral research in Edinburgh, Potsdam, NY, USA and Birmingham, and then took up a lectureship in Mathematics at Exeter University in 1988. He was promoted to a Readership in 1992 and then took up the Chair in Mathematics at the University of Kent in 1995. He has written 5 books and about 100 research papers in Applied Mathematics. His field of interest is differential equations, and in particular soliton equations. He is married to Dr Elizabeth Mansfield, who is also a Mathematician.
Coghlan, Nicholas. 1973-1977
After graduating in 1977 in Modern languages, Nick Coghlan taught for three years in Buenos Aires (Argentina), then emigrated to Canada (Vancouver Island). Between 1985 and 1989 he and his wife Jenny (Wolfson College, 1973-76) sailed around the world in their 27ft sloop "Tarka the Otter". Nick joined the Canadian foreign service in 1991, and has had postings in Mexico, Colombia and Sudan; he is currently Counsellor at the Canadian High Commission, Cape Town, South Africa.
Connell, Tim. 1968-1971
Tim is now Professor Emeritus at City University London, and is an honorary Life Fellow of Gresham College in the City of London. He is active with the Chartered Institute of Linguists as Vice-President and also chairs the Educational Trust Board. He is a court assistant at the Stationers' and Newspaper Makers' Company.
Counsell, Christopher. 1970-1974
Christopher read Modern Languages (French and Spanish) at Queens before gaining a MBA at the City University, London in 1984. He is now working as a Managment and company improvement consultant, with his own business 'Day2'.
Crown, Steve. 1980-1982
After completing the B.A. in Russian, Steve returned to the USA and studied law. After a decade of work in and with Russia, Steve joined the legal team at Microsoft Corporation, where he has held a number of positions, including Associate General Counsel responsible for the Windows client operating system business, Vice President and Deputy General Counsel for Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Division (XBox and Video Games, Television, Music and Film industry relationships, Mobile Telephony ), and VP and DGC for Microsoft's Business Division (Microsoft Office and other business productivity software platforms and applications).
Davies, Peter. 1972-1976
Peter was at Queen's studying German under Bill Calder. He now works for BAE Systems, Warton, Lancashire.
Davison, Stephen. 1972-1976
Stephen (Steve) studied Chemistry at Queens. He has been married to Margaret since 1979 and has 2 children, Gemma (who has just started a degree in Fine Art at Reading University) and Matthew. He is currently Head of Science at Headlands School in Bridlington.
Denyer, Gareth. 1980-1984
Gareth read Biochemistry as an undergraduate and stayed on for another 3 years to complete a D.Phill. After that, emigrating to Australia seemed sensible and after all this time down under he has the requiste wife and two nippers, a Pro-Deanship in Biochemistry at Sydney University and has been nominated for the Australian National Teaching Excellence Awards. He hasn't seen Brighton play for 12 years which is probably just as well.
Edwards, Nicholas. 1979-1982
After graduating from Queen's in Physiological Sciences, Nicholas completed his medical studies in Oxford and then practiced general medicine and surgery for a year. In 1985 he joined Andersen Consulting (now known as Accenture) and spend 18 years there doing business consulting in healthcare and life sciences. Since 2005 he has been chairman of a start up consulting company called Kinapse and a network of Business Angel investors called MedInnovate. He is married with two children and lives in Oxford.
Edyvean, Robert. 1977-1980
Rob studied Classics at Queens. Since then he has been a travel rep in Europe, played drums for a semi-professional soul band The Exocettes, and become involved in IT. He now works as a freelance IT consultant and lives in Fulham, London.
Evans, Mark Christopher. 1977-1980
Mark read Modern Languages at Queens and then trained as a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor. He is now Director of Tax Consultancy at Tenon Group plc, based in London. He is married to Niki, has three children (Tom, Harriet and Kit) and lives in Muswell Hill.
Fagandini, Keith. 1976-1979
Keith is a Senior Manager with ANZ Investment Bank concentrating on structuring financing packages for infrastructure projects around the world. Sadly, he continues to support Crystal Palace F.C., and can be found in the Arthur Waite stand at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoons on a depressingly regular basis.
Fallows, James. 1970-1972
Jim has worked in journalism through most of the time since leaving Oxford, mainly for the Atlantic Monthly magazine (www.theatlantic.com). He and his wife Deb, who were married in the Queen's College chapel, are now based in Washington DC. Contact info at www.jamesfallows.com .
Farrell, Joseph. 1972-1976
Joe read maths at Queen's and then stayed in Oxford to complete an M.Sc. in maths and a D.Phil. in economics. He is now a professor of economics at Berkeley, a post he twice interrupted in order to serve in economic policy positions in the Clinton administration.
Fife, Jim. 1976-1980
Graduated in Chemistry in 1980, moved from precious metals marketing with Johnson Matthey to start special metal component manufacturer Attica in 1994, then Attica-Swiss in 2010. Lives near Oxford with wife and occasionally 3 returning children who have entered completely different professional spheres. Main ambition-to regain 1970s soccer and rowing fitness as a veteran!
Finton, Timothy Christopher. 1974-1976
Tim is Senior Counsellor for International Communications and Information Policy at the United States Department of State. He lives in Washington D.C. with his wife and two sons.
Fitzsimmons, Trevor. 1979-1983
Trevor was at Queen's reading Chemistry. He won a golf Blue in 1983 and was college football captain in 1981/2 and tennis secretary in 1981. He is now working in Taiwan for a Hong-Kong based company, Jardine Matheson, as Finance Director.
Flitter, Derek William. 1978-1986
After completing a D.Phil at Queen's and then holding a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship from 1987-1990, left Oxford and spent sixteen years at the University of Birmingham. Appointed to a Chair at Exeter in 2007. Current Hispanic Editor of the Modern Language Review. Married with two children: Tristan (b. 1995) and Clemency (b. 1997)
Gillies, Alan. 1980-1984
Alan Gillies having read Chemistry, returned to his native Lancashire, where he is now Professor of Information Management in a medical school, where he does no chemistry but includes amongst other achievements a honorary medical doctorate from Transylvania
Godden, Mike. 1971-1975
Mike Godden, who graduated in Modern Languages in 1975 and taught for a number of years in Hertfordshire and Lancashire, has now retired.
Golan, Jay. 1978-1979
Jay Golan read P.P.E. while on a Knox Fellowship from Harvard University. He has been in New York for the last 20 years as an administrator for nonprofit institutions and is currently Director of Development and Planning for Carnegie Hall. He is married and has two girls and lives in Brooklyn.
Gordon, Francois. 1971-1974
Francois qualified as a solicitor after graduation, then in 1979 turned his back on the law and joined the Diplomatic Service, in which he served for thirty years, mostly in sub-Saharan Africa. He was HM Ambassador to Algeria between 1997 and 1999, Ambassador to Cote d'Ivoire 2001-2004, (from where he had the pleasure of twice returning to Oxford in Eights Week to watch his eldest daughter cox Pembroke 1st VIII) and High Commissioner to Uganda 2005-2008. He lives near Maidstone and now works for Kent Police as their European Strategy Adviser
Gould, Stephen. 1975-1978
Stephen Gould recovered from his ignominious BA (fail) - now officially an MA (fail). Having worked in banking in London, New York and Hong Kong, is now back in New York as the Chief Investment Officer for the New York hotel workers' union pension fund, which would no doubt come as a surprise to his jurisprudence colleagues...as indeed it is to him.
Gregg-Smith, Gerard. 1976-1980
Having spent all that time studying French and German, I somehow ended up spending 10 years in Japan, and joining a Japanese pharmaceutical company. From there it was a logical step to become an investment banker doing mergers and acquisitions in life sciences. I now have my own business doing senior executive search in finance and life sciences, plus M&A, and am still playing tenor saxophone.

Now an eye surgeon in Nottingham, specialising in operating on babies.
Grubb, Marcus Simon Ashley. 1980-1983
Marcus studied Modern History & Economics, graduating in 1983 with a 1st – and winning the Webb-Medley prize. He then joined JP Morgan in New York and went on to spend the next 15 years working in finance with UBS, Warburg, Salomon Brothers and Rabobank. At Rabobank, he ran global equities and was a Board member of the investment bank. In 1999, after leaving Rabobank, he set up his first company in e-trading systems and, thereafter, founded Swapstream (another e-trading system), which was sold to the Chicago Mercantile Exchange in late 2006. He is currently MD of Investment at the World Gold Council. He lives on the river in West London with his wife, Susan, who runs online curiosity shop, www.shopcurious.com. He enjoys opera, shooting, golf, sailing, hiking and travel.
Gustafson, Kjell. 1974-1975
Kjell was a Florey Student 1974-75, studying Classics, Linguistics and Comparative Philogogy. He returned to Oxford to study Phonetics in 1981. After teaching various linguistic subjects at English and Norwegian universities and polytechnics he moved to Stockholm, Sweden, in 1990, and has since then worked as a linguist and phonetician at the Royal College of Technology (KTH) and at Acapela Group Sweden AB (previously Infovox AB).
Habron, Robert. 1976-1979
Robert matriculated 1976 BA Biochemistry. After graduation, Robert worked from 1981 to 1998 as an accountant in local government; currently he is working as an IT systems engineer in Huddersfield. Married 1982, divorced 1997 - 3 children. Robert says he is a dedicated adherent of the 12 step programme of recovery & Theravada meditation.
Hamill, David John. 1979-1981
After seventeen and a half years as a Member of the Queensland State Parliament, and nine years as a Cabinet Minister, David decided to "retire" to the world of the Boardroom. He and his wife Pat, an Organisational Psychologist have four sons and they live in Ipswich, near Brisbane.
Harris, Mark. 1979-1982
Mark studied Modern History in between footballing duties as League & Referees Secretary for OUAFC (1080/81) and subsidising the beer cellar at every opportunity. On graduating Mark went into marketing with a succession of companies, latterly as Marketing Director of The Prize Company, which runs competitions for BBC, ITV & Sky (amongst many more). Over the last 20 years he has found time to get married (twice), become a proud father of two, made several breweries very happy and become chairman of Altrincham Football Club, where he still resides (that's in the Altrincham area, not at the club!). Having lost touch with old mates, Mark would love to re-establish contact.
Hiett, Peter. 1977-1981
Peter read French and German and then went into journalism. He now works for BBC World Service Radio as a duty editor in the newsroom. Past postings include Jakarta correspondent and North Africa correspondent. He is married with one child; three more children from a previous marriage.
Higgs, John. 1979-1982
After Queen's John spent a year (1982-83) at Jodrell Bank, Cheshire, doing an MSc in Radio Astronomy. He then migrated south and has worked in Exeter for Devon County Council in various IT-related roles ever since. He currently lives in Torquay, and is married with one daughter.
Higham, Paul. 1974-1977
Paul has somehow ended up a Principal Consultant in the Business Intelligence Consulting practice of Oracle, despite taking PPE at a time when choice of word processor was limited to fountain pen vs. biro. Along the way he did an MA and a PhD, and garnered work experience ranging from clerk at the DHSS to running the analytics group for Greenwich NatWest Asset Securitisation. Married to Debbie, they have two children. Now resident in the flat lands of East Anglia, he often takes comfort from the bitter easterly winds in the music venues of Cambridge.
Hill, Rev Dr Charles. 1971-1973
Charles was Hastings Senior Scholar at Queen's and gained a D.Phil in German under Professor Prawer. His tutor was Bill Calder. Over twenty years on, he's Head of the Upper School at Dover Grammar School for Boys, and a non-stipendiary priest in the Church of England.
Hochroth, James. 1973-1975
James was awarded first class honours in PPE. After completing an MBA at Stanford, he joined McKinsey as a management consultant. He has lived in Sydney since 1979, happily married with two grown sons. He works as a consultant and investor and is chairman of a private hospital.
Hodge, Laurence Dietrich. 1971-1974
Hodgson, Ian. 1980-1983
Ian took a first at Sussex with his thesis on the control of Third World Famine then came to Oxford to work on the artificial blood project under Sir Jack Baldwin FRS for which he received his MSc (by research). After Oxford Ian became a chemical pathologist becoming a consultant for the Medicheck Group & Leicester Health Screening Centre. In 1992 he received a DSc, left full-time pathology and became a 'roving consultant' he still lives in leafy Buckinghamshire.
Hoffman, Jonathan Malcolm. 1971-1974
After leaving Queen's, Jonathan did an M Sc in Economics at LSE. He then spent thirteen years at the Bank of England as an economist. In 1988 he switched to the private sector and since that date the majority of his career has been with Credit Suisse First Boston. He also served as an Adviser to the Commons Social Security Select Committe for its enquiry into Unfunded Pensions in Europe. He and his wife Wendy have a son of 24 and a daughter of 18.
Holland, Jonathan . 1979-1981
Jonathan is Assistant Bishop in the Anglican Diocese of Brisbane, Australia. His PhD is in the history of the diocese since 1950. He is married to Kerry, an artist, and they have three children.
Howell, Tom. 1971-1975
Tom read Modern Languages at Queen's. He now lives and works in Reading as a partner in a commercial law firm - Clarks Solicitors - but with some important Oxford-based clients.
Huddart, David. 1975-1979
Despite advice from the University (Dis)Appointments Committee Dave is actually making use of his Chemistry working as an Information Manager for the company formerly known as Albright & Wilson (taken over in 2000 by the French company Rhodia)
Hudson, David. 1968-1971
After a long career in Marketing in the food industry, including 4 years in Japan, I have now retired and have taken on a number of trustee roles. The biggest of these is as a Court Governor for the Whitgift Foundation in Surrey, which is responsible for 3 independent schools-Whitgift, Trinity and Old Palace of John Whitgift.
Hulliger, Manuel. 1975-1976
Manuel obtained his first degree in Medical Biology from the University of Basel (Switzerland). Following an Honours year in Physiology at the University of Edinburgh, he was a graduate student at Wolfson College (1972-75), reading for a D.Phil. in Physiology under Prof. Peter Matthew's supervision. From 1975-1976 he was a Junior Research Fellow in Medicine at Queen's. After a few years (and rather cold winters) in the far North of Sweden, as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Umeå, he returned to his native Switzerland, as a Senior Research Fellow at the Brain Research Institute of the University of Zürich (1979-1988). In 1988 he and his family (wife, Hedi, and daughter, Sara) moved to Canada, where Manuel was appointed Professor of Physiology and Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Calgary. From the outset, his research interests focused on neural (in particular sensory) control of movement, sensorimotor integration and, more recently, on neuromotor rehabilitation in laboratory animals and man. Kershaw, Royston. 1971-1974
Royston Kershaw has worked for the Met Office since graduating from Queen's in 1974. He is currently head of Atmospheric Processes and Parametrizations and has moved to the new HQ in Exeter. He is married to Heather, has two sons, Alex and Nic, from his first marriage, and lives in Thorverton, Devon.
Kingshott, Adrian Paul. 1979-1982
After graduating in 1982 Adrian had a brief spell in the "City" before going to Harvard Business School. After getting an MBA he rejoined Goldman Sachs where he worked slavishly for 15 years; ultimately running the leveraged finance business in New York. Adrian is currently a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager at Amaranth, a multi-strategy hedge fund in Greenwich CT. He got lucky in marrying Sonia before leaving England in 1985. Got even luckier in having 3 children; Natasha, Rupert and Thomas. Adrian is an American citizen but indulges in great nostalgia about England. He would love to hear from any of you who find yourselves in the USA.
Lamarque, Peter Vaudreuil. 1970-1972
Took the BPhil in Philosophy in 1972. Currently Professor of Philosophy at the University of York. Previous posts include Lecturer and Senior Lecturer at the University of Stirling (1972-1995) and Ferens Professor of Philosophy at the University of Hull (1995-2000). Visiting positions at Cornell University, Tsukuba University (Japan), the Australian National University,and the University of Lisbon. Most recent book is Work and Object: Explorations in the Metaphysics of Art (Oxford UP, 2010).
Larsen, Ole Naesbye. 1975-1976
Ole returned to Odense University in Denmark to do his PhD-work on sound communication in animals. Here he was later employed as associate professor in sound communication. In 1993 he was a co-founder of the Center for Sound Communication, specialising in the physiology of sound production in birds. Since 1999 he has been Departmental Chairman. He has two sons Troels and Andreas born in 1983 and 1988 but was divorced in 1993.
Lindley, Tony. 1968-1971
Tony Read Modern Languages (German & French) at Queens. He now lives in Oxford and is a faculty member of, and acts as Course Director for, the Chartered Institute of Marketing in Cookham, Berkshire. He is also a Visiting Fellow in Marketing at Bradford University School of Management. He co-presented a paper on "A brand identity framework for the arts sector" to the European Academy of Marketing in Rotterdam in 2000, and is currently writing a book on the subject.

Loughe, Simon. 1978-1981
After 3 more years of clinical studies at Cambridge, then dabbling in Obs.& Gynae. for two more, Simon finally became a GP in Lincolnshire, where he also trains for Marathons ( PB 4hr 21m ) and bad golf.
Lund, Jeremy. 1977-1980
Jeremy read Music and was a choral bursar during his time as an undergraduate at Queen's. As a countertenor, his most notable performance was undoubtedly singing a Bach dialogue with himself when John Hardy (the bass) was detained elsewhere and he took the parts of both Jesus and Mary Magdalene. A career in teaching followed after a year at Exeter University, and his interests continue to revolve around music - especially choral. He lives and works in Shrewsbury, Shropshire.
Mann, Ian. 1974-1975
Ian was at Queen's taking a Cert. Ed. after completing his first degree at Warwick. He has recently spent several years working in industry and consulting in Russia and has now returned as a senior lecturer in Informatics at Northumbria University.
McBride, Richard. 1970-1974
After completing research at the Open University with the Rutherford and Appleton Laboratory, Richard worked on Stirling Engine development. In the 1980's, he moved to Scotland, and later to Perth, Western Australia. He returned to the UK in 1997, and currently works as Director of Strategic Futures for Intec Telecom Systems PLC. He continues to devote time to his lifelong interest in painting and photography.
McGee, Shaun. 1977-1980
Shaun read PPP at Queen's and was Captain of Association Football in 1979-80. After Oxford he went on to study medicine at St Thomas' Hospital, London and has been Consultant Radiologist in Salisbury since 1995. He is married to Janet (St Hildas 1978-81) and they have one son, James. They would be delighted to hear from or see any old friends from their time in Oxford
Moore, Martin William. 1975-1979
Martin is married to Jane, lives in Reading and he works as Purchasing & Supply Manager for William Levene Ltd in Farnborough
Muff, Jeremy David. 1977-1981
Jeremy studied Classics, was Captain of the college Squash 1st Team and also enyoyed playing for the college cricket teams. He is married to Ann with 2 sons, Craig and Steven. He is a Business Development Manager with Unique Pub Company, responsible for the income from over 60 outlets and, away from work, is a renowned crown-green bowler, having won several major competitions and having appeared in televised tournaments. He lives in Holmes Chapel in Cheshire.
Nurse, Christopher Hart. 1972-1975
After graduating in Jurisprudence, joined Price Waterhouse and qualified as a Chartered Accountant. In 1988, established Hart Group, a consultancy practice providing expertise for restructuring and commercialising state-owned extractive sectors and consequent social impact. Currently focussed on extractive sector transparency and evaluation of the effectiveness of multi-stakeholder activities.
Osborne, Martin. 1976-1979
Martin is now a Colo-rectal Surgeon at Warwick Hospital
Oshinowo, Babatunde "O'Sheg". 1978-1979
Babatunde (a.k.a. O'Sheg) was at Queen's studying for a M.Sc. in Geodesy. He received a M.S. in Geodetic Science from The Ohio State University, and a Ph.D in Surveying Engineering from the University of Washington. He is currently an Engineer Physicist/Geodesist at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) in Batavia, Illinois, USA. He spent several years as a Design Engineer/Geodesist at Del Norte Technology, Inc., Euless, Texas developing GPS software. He was an Adjunct Faculty at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, Illinois teaching Geodetic Science. He is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. He is married to Lola, a Director of IT Applications Development. He has three children, Adeoti at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign reading Honors Biology and Biochemistry, Babatunde Jr. "O.J." at Stanford University reading Computer Systems Engineering and Timi in high school. He would be happy to hear from any of his old college mates, especially those that resided in the Florey Building!
Osmond, Jonathan. 1971-1975
Jonathan read Modern History and Modern Languages with tuition from R.A.C. Parker, W.M. Calder, S.S. Prawer and (then at St John's) T.J. Reed. He appeared in several OUDS productions in Oxford, Southampton and Edinburgh. After postgraduate study at the University of Munich and at St Antony's College he lectured in the Department of History at Leicester University. He is now Professor of Modern European History and Head of the School of History and Archaeology at Cardiff University. He lives in Penarth with his wife Magda and their three sons.
Payne, Giles Adrian Ivo. 1976-1976
Giles Payne is now a Probation Officer/Forensic Social Worker with the National Probation Service Thames Valley area in Oxford
Peake, Joe. 1972-1976
After Queen's, Joe went on VSO and then returned to do a PGCE. He taught at Manchester Grammar School and then Millfield before taking up his present post as Head at St George's College, Weybridge in 1995. He met Julie in Oxford in 1978, and now married for over 20 years they have three children, Nicholas, Alexandra and Benedict.
Pendry, Robert. 1974-1977
Robert studied Geography while at Queen's and went on to acquire a PGCE at Reading University. He married Ros Birch (St. Hilda's) n The Queen's College chapel in 1979. After several years at Luton 6th Form College teaching A-Level Geography he moved into administration and spent 2 profoundly unhappy years as an LEA Education Officer in St. Helens, Merseyside. He then decided to return to teaching and retrained as a Primary school teacher. After a move back down South to rural Wiltshire, he now lives in a C15th thatched cottage, in an idyllic village, with his wife and daughters Ruth (20) and Hannah (17). He has continued to work as a Primary classroom teacher, mostly in the same school. After his experiences in St. Helens, he has consciously decided to avoid the additional stresses of any managerial posts and is content to be a simple country schoolmaster. Despite this, he has studied part-time with the Open University and has acquired an Advanced Diploma in Educational Management and an M.A. in Education. He is also part way through an Open University Ed.D. (doctorate). In recent years he has made two abortive attempts to work form home as a specialist travel agent in the cruise industry. While this did not result in a profitable business, it had some most enjoyable perks!
Perry, Robert John. 1973-1977
Robert took a second in Greats in 1977 and qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1982. He is now Assistant Chief Valuer at Cornwall County Council and lives in Truro with his wife Helen. They both share a keen interest in church bell ringing, and Robert is also involved with Truro Cathedral in various voluntary capacities.
Pinkava, Václav. 1977-1982
Vaclav has been back in his old country since 1992. He (says he) invested his illgotten gains wisely, and turned a terraced house in London into two detached houses in the Czech Republic, and a flat in Prague. Old friends looking for a cheap holiday are welcome, sharing house with four children, three cats, two dogs and one wife, or the small flat, empty at weekends.
Pitkänen, Maunu Aulis. 1979-1980
Maunu has been working more than 25 years as an assistant head physicists at Tampere University Hospital (Finland), part time as a docent at Oulu and Jyväskylä Universities. He has two children, Matti and Maija.
Price, Jon. 1977-1980
Following graduation moved to London and after a short time as a trainee accountant joined the Corporation of Trinity House, where he still works as Legal and Risk Manager and Deputy Secretary to the Court. Lives in Chelmsford with his partner.
Quinlan, P Kieran. 1974-1977
Kieran Quinlan is Professor of English at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is married with two children.
Read, Simon. 1970-1973
Having spent some time lecturing in aeronautical engineering, Simon is now a freelance consultant living in Bridlington. He would be happy to hear from any of his old college mates!
Rex, Paul. 1971-1974
After 18 years with two major banks, Chemical Bank (now JP Morgan Chase) and Crédit Agricole, Paul was one of four founder shareholders of GBRW Limited in 1995. GBRW is a consulting company based in the City of London which provides advice on banking, insurance, financial sector and enterprise development issues. Paul is now Managing Director of GBRW and has been involved in consulting for the past 13 years. Paul is responsible for GBRW’s financial sector expert witness activities and has given expert evidence in a number of high profile cases, including those involving BCCI (in 2003) and Yukos (2006). He has also worked on assignments in more than 20 emerging market countries, including Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Mongolia, Poland, Russia and Serbia.
Roberts, Ian. 1975-1978
T. Ian Roberts came to Queen's from Giggleswick School to read Modern History. He qualified as a solicitor in 1982, and is currently a partner in the corporate services department of Irwin Mitchell based in Sheffield and Leeds, specialising in corporate finance and banking law and education sector clients. He is a Governor of The Sheffield College, the Law Society's nominee on the Court of the University of Bradford and a non-executive director of Kaye & Co (Huddersfield) Ltd. Ian is currently the Secretary of the Old Giggleswickian Club.
Ronse, Christian. 1976-1979
Christian was at Queen's studying for a MSc (76-77) and then a PhD (77-79) in Mathematics under the supervision of Dr. P.M. Neumann. Afterwards he worked for 11 years as a researcher for Philips corporation, and then had a one-year visiting position at the Bordeaux University. In 1992 he was nominated Professor in Computer Science at theStrasbourg University.

Rundle, Nick. 1977-1980
Nick read PPE at Queen's. After 15 years as a stockbroker, he was awarded a Sloan Fellowship at the London Business School in 1998. He is now a director of Morley Fund Management, the asset management division of CGU plc.
Saunders, Peter. 1980-1983
Peter read Engineering at Queens. He spent a few years in industry, then went into banking and property development. He has now re-trained as an osteopath, being so impressed with the results on his recovering broken ankle. He is based in Chiswick, and works with doctors in Acton, (West London) and at the Osteopathic Centre for Children in Harley St.

Sergeant, Ian. 1979-1982
Ian read Mathematics at Queen's between 1979 and 1982. He now lives in an ancient cottage in Malmesbury, Wiltshire with his wife and two cats. He works as a computer consultant for his own company, and currently has a contract in Kidlington. He has recently taken up running, with a half-marathon best time of 1:38:29.

Sint, Peter P. 1969-1970
Peter was a Florey European Scholar at Queens doing post graduate research at the Departments of Biomathematics and of Statistics (in correspondence clustering). He now works at theInstitutional Change and European Integration, Austrian Academy of Sciences
Smith, Adam. 1979-1982
Spent the 1980s in scrap metal (courtesy of the Appointments Committee) and latterly in media buying. In injury time have produced two children: Samuel (b2005) and Poppy (b2007), both unaccountably beautiful unless you have seen Maria, who assisted. Spend spare time humming Stereotypes songs
Smith, Andrew. 1976-1979
Andrew read Maths at Queen's and went on to be a Fellow of the Institue of Chartered Accountants and left the Profession to work in Financial Services in 1989. He is currently Vice President with Citigroup, the world largest Financial Services group. He is based in London with his wife Anne, their 4 children and 2 Flat Coated Retrievers. Keen interests are Golf, Bridge and keeping pace with the children !
Smith, David D. 1971-1975
David studied Literae Humaniores and is currently working in the Sultanate of Oman for Petroleum Development Oman as the Head of Resourcing and Omanisation.
Smith, Jervis. 1978-1981
Jervis is Managing Director within Citigroup's Global Transaction Services, part of their Corporate and Investment Bank. He remains a key organizer of the Crocodiles Cricket Club, and plays golf. He is married to an Italian, Daniela, and has a son, Jasper. Relocated from New York to London in October 2004.
Smyth, Gareth. 1976-1979
Gareth Smyth is currently back in London after 11 years reporting from Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Iran, and welcomes invitations from old friends for cheese and port. His latest paper - Fundamentalists, Pragmatists and the Rights of the Nation: Iranian Politics and Nuclear Confrontation - was published by the Century Foundation in New York.
Stephenson, Tim. 1980-1983
Tim is now back in the East Riding with Anne and their three children, Emily, William and Toby. He works as finannce director of a vegetable oil business on Hull docks, and still plays cricket.
Sullivan, Robert. 1973-1974
Robert Sullivan was at Queen's completing a Cert. Ed. at Oxford after finishing an M.Phil. degree at Leeds University. He has taught in Africa and in the United States where he currently a Visiting Professor of English and Modern Culture and Media at Brown Univerity, Rhode Island. He is the author of two books of literary criticism.
Taylor, Richard. 1980-1983
Richard read psychology at Queen’s. Over the course of the years he added an M.Sc. in organizational psychology and qualified as a Chartered Occupational Psychologist, complementing this with an MBA. He worked with the handicapped and drug abusers for 10 years, before spending 10 years as an international management consultant. As of 2008 he has most of his hair intact and isn’t too fat, and has worked as VP HR in an international packaging company for 5 years. He is still happily married to Synve, has lived most of his adult life in Norway, and has 3 children.
Thatcher, Christopher. 1968-1973
With a Degree in German and French, and a PGCE, Chris entered teaching and taught in Germany, Malaysia, Austria, and England. He went to Leicester for his M.Ed. in 1979-80. In 1998 he went into the world of property management, and now lives in Bournemouth with wife Marianne (married 1973 in Queen's), but not with his three children who are all energetically pursuing their own careers elsewhere in the world.
Thompson, Michael Anthony. 1974-1977
Michael read Philosophy & Modern Languages at Queen's before going into marketing in the information technology industry. In 1985 he took a job in Canada, ended up getting married there and never quite got round to leaving. He now lives in Toronto and manages sales and marketing for a software company specialising in the education market.
Tomlinson, Steve. 1974-1977
Steve read Physics at Queen's, and then moved into electronic engineering and subsequently has spent most of his career in the sales and marketing of semiconductor chips. Steve is currently European Sales Director for BridgeCo AG of Zurich, a VC-backed start-up making chip to enable connectivity between consumer electronics products and the internet.
Turner, Mark George. 1977-1980
Mark read law at Queen's. He was called to the bar in 1981. He is now Head of Chambers at Deans Court Chambers in Manchester and a Deputy High Court Judge. He is married with three daughters, Alice, Fiona and Lydia. Weinberg, Julius. 1973-1976
Julius read Physiological Sciences and Medicine. After Queens he first became an infectious diseases physician, and then moved into public health. He has had periods of working in Zimbabwe and Bosnia. Now in more peaceful environs as ProVice Cancellor for research at City University, he is responsible for getting engineers, lawyers and a business school to do research. He says that he is 'Not quite sure how this happened'.
White, Stuart. 1975-1978
Having read music and rowing, Stuart has ended up a lawyer doing insurance litigation with Reynolds Porter Chamberlain in London. He is also an organist at Farncombe church (near Guildford) and a member of the odd choir. Occasional attempts to row (the current v old members' races after Eights!) are a reminder of the days when we had eight eights on the river!
Whitehead, John. 1979-
John read chemistry at Queens, he then continued his studies at Oxford by completing a D. Phil in the Dyson Perrins Laboratories with Dr. Jim Thomas. He then began a career in the pharmaceutical industry as a medicinal chemist and is currently with Purdue Pharma in Cranbury, New Jersey. In his spare time he enjoys gardening and helping out at Pennsbury Manor in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
Wight, Colin. 1973-1984
Colin Wight read Spanish and Portuguese for his first degree (1973-77), and returned to write an MLitt very, very slowly (1978-84). He is married to Anne Young and is currently Web Editor at the British Library. He was a member of the BL team that won the final of University Challenge the Professionals in 2004. He lives in Herne Hill, south London, escaping frequently to a cottage in the Charente. He continues to support Tranmere Rovers FC through thick and (more often) thin.
Willson, Tom. 1976-1979
Tom read zoology at Queen's, went on to read medicine at The Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine in London, and is now a GP in Hertfordshire. He has fond memories of the late Dr Peter Miller, a field trip to the Gower, the University folk club and Wadworth's 6X. Special interests include occupational medicine, early music and driving four of his five children (including triplets) to and from their different universities!
Yellin, Sharon. 1980-1983
Sharon studied Medicine at The Queen's College and later Wolfson College Oxford and the John Radcliffe. She specialised in Public Health Medicine, and has been a consultant in Leeds since 1993. She is married and has twin sons.
