After leaving Queen's in 2002 Julie has spent the last four years at Selwyn College, Cambridge studying for a PhD in Biochemistry. She is about to take up a postdoctorial position at the department of Molecular and Cell Biology, UC Berkeley. Julie married Dr Andrew Aspden at Selwyn Chapel, Cambridge on 10th December 2005.

Bobzien, Susanne.

Susanne Bobzien was the first woman to be appointed a tutorial fellow at Queens. After twelve years as Fellow and Praelector in Philosophy at Queens, she took up a Senior Professorship in Philosophy at Yale University. In 2010 she accepted a Senior Research Fellowship at Yale. Her published work is mainly on vagueness, determinism and freedom, and ancient logic.

Bowlt, Joanne L.

After a few months work and independent travel in Asia Joanne was commissioned into the Army as a Logistics officer and spent six years working in Germany, the Balkans and the UK.
Now a Territorial Army Major she left her job as Campaign Manager of the no campaign ("europe yes, euro no")when she was mobilised in February 2003 and served four months in Iraq as an Army and Coalition Provisional Administration press officer.
Now a civilian Public Relations consultant again, she is travelling, with her boyfriend, from Oxford UK to Oxford NZ in an 1954 Morris Oxford car raising funds in aid of the British Red Cross. Departing 5 May 2004 Joanne and Tim expect to travel for approximately a year and would very much like to hear from old Queen's members, particularly those on route through Europe, N Africa, the Middle East, Australia and New Zealand.

Ian read E.E.M. at Queen's. He was Captain of Boats in 95/96 and is presently Secretary of Queen's College Rowing Society. The Society provides financial support for the development of rowing at Queen's whilst also providing a social focus for old Boat Club members. Ian now works as a strategy consultant atMercer Management Consultingin London. Adrian Burden came to Queen's to study for a D.Phil. in the Department of Materials. He was also the founding president of the university lifesaving club, and spent a year running the College's student computing facilities.

Rick studied at Queen's College as a Marshall scholar from the U.S. . He achieved his M.Sc. in Immunogenetics at the Institute for Molecular Medicine in 1993. From there, and then earned a M.D. degree in Washington D.C. . He is currently a house officer (resident) in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Seattle, Washington. He recently married Ms Meredith Hansen and they are braving the rain of the Pacific Northwest (for which Oxford was a nice warmup).

Ben left Queen's and studied for a PGCE in London before teaching Biology at Norwich and Tonbridge Schools. After a change of heart, he emigrated to France, worked in telecoms, and gained an MBA. He is now back in London, working in biometric security systems.

Naomi Canton (Queen's College Japanese BA 1990-1995) has taken up a job as a special correspondent working for the Hindustan Times in Mumbai. She is now living in Mumbai and writing across all sections of the
newspaper. She resigned from her position as senior reporter and business correspondent at the Norwich Evening News, where she had worked for 2.5
years in June this year to take the job up. She is now busy studying Hindi and getting to understand the Indian way

After studying physics at Queens David defected to the other place where he continued his studies in the Physical sciences by doing research in to THz frequency medical imaging systems in the semiconductor physics department of the Cavendish. David now has blues from both places and is slowly forgetting all his Mandarin Chinese as he continues to live the life of student poverty in England.

Sandeep returned to Oueen's in 2003 after a 3-year stint as a Wall Street investment banker and lawyer and wrapped up his D.Phil in 2004. Since then, he has been an Associate Professor of Law at Arizona State University. His first book "Transnational Commercial Law" was published in 2004. He was appointed to the Arizona Aerospace and Defense Commission by the Governor of Arizona in 2005, the youngest member by a long way. He was also elected the Vice-Chairman of the American Bar Association's Committee on International Secured Transactions and Insolvency Law.

After completing his MChem, Will decided to stay on at Queen's for a DPhil. Three and a bit more years were spent mostly rowing with a bit of chemistry, whilst also being the V.P. of QLQ and Cardo. Will can now be found working as a Post Doctoral fellow at Indiana University.

Richard took a doctorate in Modern History at Queen's. His thesis was subsequently published as a book, "Austen Chamberlain and the Commitment to Europe" and he has subsequently published a second book, "Liberals, International Relations and Appeasement". Having taught at several universities, he moved into working in politics in 1998, first as Director of the the Centre for Reform, and since 1999, as Director of Policy of the Liberal Democrats. He has been a principal speech writer for Charles Kennedy, and in his current role, was responsible for the 2001 Liberal Democrat general election manifesto. He married Lucy Harland in 1995, and their first baby, Edward, was born in 2002.

Kate McGhee (nee Griffiths) married fellow Queen's alumnus John McGhee (PPE 1992-1995) in 2000. Her degree in Modern History has led seamlessly to a career in the marketing world. She is currently Client Director with the BPRI Group in London (part of the WPP worldwide communications group) where she specialises in b2b branding, communication and stakeholder-engagement research for clients at a variety of international corporations and public sector organisations. After completing a BA in Physics at Queen's Jules did a PhD in Astrophysics at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. In 1995 she went to work as a modeller of ocean waves at the Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory, near Birkenhead. She married James Annan (Univ. 1989-1994) on a hill in Scotland in the summer of 1996. In 2001 Jules and James had to find homes for their 15 pet rats because they were moving to new jobs at the Frontier Research System for Global Change, Yokohama, Japan, where they are now studying climate change with the help, and hindrance, of the world's fastest computer.

Alexander was at Queen's as an Erasmus student, preparing for his Magister Artium exam in English Lit., German Lit. and Philosophy, which he took at the University of Bonn in April 1999. From November 1999, he will be attending a 2-year graduate studies course in Film- and Theatre criticism at the Film and Television Academy in Munich. After graduating from the Film and Television Academy in Munich in 2001, I started working for the arts section of the Süddeutsche Zeitung, a German broadsheet with nationwide circulation. Since July 2004, I live and work in London as the Süddeutsche's arts correspondent in Britain.

Phillip read Jurisprudence at Queen's, after which he moved to the United States to work in the Information Technology field. He is married with two children and is currently working for Collective Brands (one of the world's premier footwear, accessory and lifestyle brand companies) as a manager in their IS department. Omphemetse was a Scholar and read physiology (M.Sc. by Research: Dunn School of Pathology) whilst at Queen's. He obtained his bachelors degree at Stanford University. After Queen's, Omphemetse went to law school at the University of Cape Town. He is interested in technology-based transactions, and his practice focuses on biotechnology, telecommunications, information technology, and e-commerce. He currently works as an associate at White & Case LLP in Johannesburg.

Sara studied music at Queens and went on to study singing. Sara spent a number of years as a professional opera singer but decided that it wasn't for her so she converted her degree to law and is an associate in the Projects department of Addleshaw Goddard. Sara now lives in Manchester with her husband, Simon and two year old daughter, Hattie.

'Read' coastal and offshore engineering for a DPhil; but, due to a fall in the barrel price and a reluctance to return to the states, had to take a job as a civil engineer in Glasgow on slave wages. After a year, went to work on a road bypass around the famous Silverstone racetrack for a further year. Then, deciding to grow up and do what he was trained for, took a job in Wallingford as a coastal engineer. Unfortunately realising, after three years, that he was working in an ivory tower (if not living in one - just off Iffley Road), managed somehow to get chartered and become a MICE. On the back of this he found a job in the real world for Royal Haskoning and moved to Peterborough (truly the land of milk and honey), where he reinvented himself, yet again, as a "Maritime Civil Engineer".

After Oxford, and then an MA in economics and politics at Manchester, spent nearly four years in the civil service. Curiosity killed the cat... and leads civil servants into the private sector... but after two years as a management consultant, and another three running telecommunications companies across the newly-liberalising European markets, reentered the civil service. Hasn't yet found a practical use for a degree in French literature, but has accumulated some expertise in the regulation of liberalising industry sectors (telecoms and most recently energy). Now seconded to the European Commission, working on competition policy in the gas industry.

Yasin Javed Rehman read for a D. Phil in Physics at the Queens College from 1995-1999. Since his graduation he has been working as a strategy and management consultant in the city of London. His expertises are in new technologies and management sectors. He as worked for both the public and the private sectors as a consultant. Currently he is working as a consultant in the filed of education management. He is a board member of two businesses. He has also worked as a visiting lecturer in physics and management studies. He has contributed in many articles and books on international relations and political challenges faced by many nations around the globe. He is writing a book on Roots of Islamic Fundamentalism. Tina read Theology at Queen's from 1989-1992. From there she went on to gain a PGCE in Religious Education and taught in Kent and East Sussex for 5 years. Tina currently heads a national recruitment campaign for RE teachers (www.retri.org.uk) where recent photos can be seen. Tina now lives in Oxford city centre and she claims to provide excellent B&B rates to old friends!

I am being bought out of the business over the next 5 years, and no longer working, enabling me to spend lots of time with Ettie (4) and Eloise (3). We live in Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, home of the famous brewery.

Naila sometimes read Egyptology at Queen's, but only when she could fit it into her hectic social schedule. Despite this, she managed to graduate (!), moved to Beirut, Lebanon, and is now a wife (!!) and mother (!!!). She has currently resigned from a very glamorous position as the Maybelline Brand Manager at LOréal to pursue her dream of being the next J.K. Rowling, and is labouring over her first tome, a collection of Arabic nursery rhymes

After completing his PPE degree at Queen's, Siva went on to pursue a career as an international trade policy analyst with the Singapore Government. He spent a considerable number of years as a trade diplomat accredited to the World Trade Organization (WTO), and in that capacity, also served as the Chairman of the WTO Working Party on GATS Rules in 2000. He went back to university to obtain a law degree in 2001 and is currently working in Melbourne, Australia, with a top tier Asia-Pacific law firm. Siva would love to hear from his friends at college and, in particular, the 1988 denizens of the Florey Building.

His outside time is taken up in chairing the Associates' Club, a debating and dining society; charity work; and his work as a school governor.

Theo, Tatty.

After Queens, Tatty studied baroque cello at the Royal College of Music where she was awarded her ARCM and MMus degrees. She has performed with many of Englands leading period instrument ensembles and at festivals and concert halls throughout Britain and abroad, with live broadcasts on BBC Radio and television.
Tatty is currently preparing performing editions of several unpublished works by Handel. She is the founder and director of The Brook Street Band, the award-winning period instrument ensemble specialising in the music of Handel and his European contemporaries. Their first CD will be released on AVIE records on 17 November 2003.

Oscar came up to Queen's in October 2000 to read Modern History & Politics. In Trinity 2001 he was elected President of the JCR. After taking Schools in May and June of 2003, he stayed on at Queen's as Assistant to the Home Bursar, before taking over as the College's Old Members' Officer in October 2003, a position he enjoys immensely. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, architecture, history, serving as a school governor, walking in the countryside, and standing for parliament as the Labour candidate in Newbury, Berkshire.
