New exhibition at the British Museum is based on book by Queen’s Fellow

17th May 2017

Professor Richard Parkinson’s 2013 book A Little Gay History provides the basis for a new special exhibition at the British Museum called Desire, love, identity: exploring LGBTQ histories.  Professor Parkinson also acted as a consultant for the exhibition which runs from 11 May – 15 October 2017.

2017 is the 50th anniversary of the passing of the Sexual Offences Act in July 1967.  This legislation partially decriminalised homosexuality in England and Wales and marks an important milestone in the campaign for equality.

The exhibition is free and includes a range of artefacts covering 11,000 years. There is also a trail through the British Museum’s permanent galleries.
