Winners of the Queen’s Photography Competition 2020
Thank you to everyone who entered this year’s competition; we were delighted to receive over 140 photos! Thanks also go to our judging panel, made up of Old Member Susan Diab (French & German, 1982) and representatives from the JCR, MCR and SCR: Zoe Harding (Fine Art, 2018), Hannah Willis (2019, DPhil in Experimental Psychology) and John Davis (Fellow in Modern History).
After much deliberation, the judges agreed on the following winners, with cash prizes of £100, £50 and £25 being awarded for first, second and third place respectively in each category:
Winners in the ‘Queen’s Life’ category
1st Prize: Double Rainbow over Queen’s Front Quad by Elisa Cozzi (DPhil in English, 2018)
2nd Prize: Queen’s Graduation by Abda Mahmood (MSc in Experimental Psychology, 2011)
3rd Prize: St Aldates Kitchen by James Berridge (Chemistry, 2006)
Winners in the ‘Oxford’ category
1st Prize: Stop and Smell the Flowers by Charlotte Harrison (Medicine, 2015)
2nd Prize: Gone So Soon by Tristan Giron (DPhil in Partial Differential Equations, 2016)
3rd Prize: The Bustle of Turl Street by Laurence Jeffcoate (PPL, 2014)
We also very much enjoyed seeing all the older photos submitted by some of our Old Members, and so decided to award an additional prize for our favourite in the ‘Vintage’ category:
Time at Queen’s by Nick Beecroft (Physics, 1978)
The judges said: ‘Congratulations to all the winners! And thank you to everyone who submitted work, which was of such a good standard. Keep it up!’
You can take a look through all the entries on the Queen’s Flickr account. We will also share more of them throughout the year on the Queen’s Instagram. The competition will run again in 2021 (open to all current students, Old Members, Fellows and staff).
