My favourite memory of Queen’s

The entirety of my second year was fantastic – no exams, knowing the lay of the land and swanning about! The first Queen’s ball I ever went to was incredible. But I also have fond memories of cycling round Oxford on beautiful crisp autumn days, sometimes to play hockey for college, or even running down to the river to row. I also remember the elation and relief of finishing finals and coming out to be greeted by all my pals, flowers and bubbles!!

What Queen’s means to me

One of the most special things about Queen’s for me was that it was the first place I really felt I belonged. It remains special to me for that reason and every time I go to Oxford, I always make the same pilgrimage to College. My pride in having got there and been part of the University’s history has probably grown since leaving. And of course, the enduring friendships I have from the time shared over the course of those years.

My journey since leaving Queen’s

My career has had three chapters since leaving Queen’s. The first ten years were spent in social and probation work culminating in a 2-year secondment to Romania helping the Romanian Ministry of Justice experiment with the notion of community penalties for juveniles – an experiment that led to the establishment of the Romanian Probation Service. This was an incredible experience which also enabled me to continue my love of Latin languages by learning Romanian. Chapter 2 took me to PA Consulting Group where I led programmes of change, mainly in the public sector for ten years. And then in 2013 I set up my own coaching and consulting business, Neon, with the aim of transforming organisational culture through developing what I call Deeply Human® leadership capability.
