Journey since leaving Queen’s
I moved to France immediately after graduation. I worked briefly in publishing, which kick-started my translation career. I did a PhD in comparative literature at the University of Toulouse, then landed my first permanent lectureship in Paris in 2007. I was an associate professor in the English department at the Sorbonne for several years before moving to my current job in Geneva, where I run the English unit. We train language professionals, many of whom go on to work for the many major international organisations based in Geneva, such as the UN, the Red Cross, CERN, the WHO, WIPO, etc. We also have a language tech department that works on projects such as developing interpreting software for d/Deaf patients in hospital settings.
