The panel will be useful to those considering a range of subjects within the listed areas, and is designed to give a flavour of the teaching and culture at Queen’s. We will talk about what tutors are looking for in potential students, the application and admissions process, and typical on-course teaching at Queen’s, as well as plenty of opportunity for questions from applicants and their supporters.
Law taster lecture, Weds 1 July
What’s Wrong with AI Copying Everyone’s Stuff?
In this taster lecture, Professor Hudson explores questions around the development of AI through a legal lens. The emergence of new technologies almost inevitably leads to concerns about whether the law is ‘keeping up’. But in figuring out whether this is a problem, it is worth stepping back to ask what, exactly, we want a world with AI to look like.
Professor Emily Hudson is Tutorial Fellow in Law at The Queen’s College and Professor of Law at the Faculty of Law. She has research expertise in intellectual property law, including as it relates to educational institutions and the creative industries. Her submission to the UK Intellectual Property Office, in its recent consultation on Copyright and AI, was cited in the government response.
Physics taster lecture, Thurs 2 July
Special Relativity
Dr Kirsty Duffy is Tutorial Fellow in Physics at The Queen’s College and Associate Professor and UKRI Future Leaders Fellow at the Department of Physics. She is an experimental particle physicist, researching particles called neutrinos. Dr Duffy hosts a YouTube series (created with Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory) about neutrino physics called “Even Bananas” (because everything creates neutrinos – the Sun, the Earth, and…even bananas!).
What happens on an Open Day?
Open Days are an opportunity for prospective students to get a feel for the College, explore the facilities and help you decide whether Oxford and Queen’s might be the place for you.
Our admissions and access team, as well as our wonderful current students, will be on hand to answer your queries about the application process and college life. Our Meet the Tutors panels will also give you chance to ask subject-specific questions and gain further insight into what teaching and learning is like at Queen’s.
After you have visited us at Queen’s, you can explore the range of events and talks taking place across the whole University. You can consult the full timetable of events on the University webpage to help you plan your visit.
Visiting your college was the highlight of our trip.
