The Translation Exchanges are a series of friendly and informal catch-ups for everyone interested in the practice of translation.
All are welcome, regardless of experience, languages, or degree stage. You don’t need to be an Oxford student to attend. The important thing is that you’re curious about translation and want to think about it more. Our sessions are normally informal chats in small groups that last about one hour, with snacks included!
We tend to work with translation problems that participants bring along. If you’re stuck with a translation – whether it’s classwork, something for fun or a professional challenge – we’ll work together as a group to brainstorm solutions and innovations.
As part of Translation Exchanges, we are thrilled to welcome Polly Barton, acclaimed writer and translator from Japanese, to Queen’s to host a termly multilingual masterclass.
The sessions showed me that Oxford is full of translators, full of brilliant, creative, committed, forward-thinking linguists working on texts as varied as experimental literature and constitutional documents. They inspired me to start translating, too!
