The College is proud to note that current student Tom Constantinou is the Musical Director for Sondheim’s Company, running this week from January 28th – 31st at The Oxford Playhouse.

He says:

It’s been a wonderfully terrifying experience being the MD for a show at the Oxford Playhouse, as the scale and magnitude of every artistic choice has to be increased to meet the space of the stage and the auditorium. Working in what is normally a professional theatre brings with it opportunities like having a 14-piece jazz band with the space for a discrete conductor, whilst also bringing challenges of meeting the higher expectations of a local and student Oxford audience.

Our rendition of ‘Company’ has something both for staunch Sondheim fans (through our incorporation of music mostly omitted since its premiere), and something for those who have never seen live musical theatre with the show’s lush orchestrations and quick-witted libretto. It promises to be a show with boisterous excesses of fun, confetti, and balloons, whilst leaving its audience with deeper questions of relationships, commitment, and care.
