Fairtrade Fortnight at Queen’s
We are organising various activities to celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight (22 February to 7 March) at Queen’s. Look out for the stand of Fairtrade products in the Servery, and take part in our chocolate quiz during lunchtime on Friday 5 March: anyone scoring full marks will receive a Divine chocolate bar of their choice.
Our Head Chef has devised two special menus, using only Fairtrade products, for lunches on Monday 22 February and Friday 5 March. Please see below for full details of the menus.
Anyone who signs on for dinner in Fairtrade Fortnight will go into a draw to win a goodie bag full of delicious Fairtrade products. Congratulations to Ruiting Jiang and Ibraham Al-obaidi, the winners of our Fairtrade goodie bags!
Queen’s has been committed to using Fairtrade products since 2017, and was one of five colleges included in Oxford’s Fairtrade University and College Award last year. We now ensure that all of tea, coffee, sugar, bananas and a proportion of our chocolate are Fairtrade. Each year we try to add new Fairtrade products to our offering.
Fairtrade rallies a global community of millions – farmers and workers, supply chain partners, brands, retailers, shoppers, schools, government – to pay fair prices and uphold fair production standards and practices. Fair standards and practices promote sustainable farming to protect biodiversity and the environment; deliver training for women so they can participate and lead; secure worker rights; and tackle climate change.
