The College is saddened to note the death of former Assistant Librarian Helen Powell. Helen started working at Queen’s in 1971, when she took up the post of Assistant Librarian. She was an alumna of St Anne’s, where she obtained a degree in History in 1959 and a BLitt in 1964. She then worked as a research assistant, in which capacity she gained considerable experience in libraries and archives. She obtained a diploma in Librarianship from the University of London in 1971, shortly before taking up her post at Queen’s.
Upon her retirement from the post of Assistant Librarian in 1997, Helen continued to work at Queen’s as a researcher, and she was particularly involved in the cataloguing of Special Collections material. She retired from Queen’s in 2000.
