The Queen’s College has a strong musical tradition and the mixed-voice Choir of The Queen’s College is recognised as one of the finest choral ensembles in the country.

The Choir Administrator is responsible for the overall administration and smooth running of the Choir’s schedule, which includes three services a week in term time (Wednesday, Friday, Sunday), as well as concerts, tours, recordings and broadcasts throughout the year. They work closely with the Choir’s Director, Professor Owen Rees.

Samuel matriculated as a member of Queen’s in 2019, first reading for a MSt before progressing onto a DPhil which he completed in 2025. His thesis focused on Henry Cooke (d.1672) and music in Civil War, Commonwealth, and Restoration England. He spent five years singing with the Choir, first as a Graduate Choral Scholar (2019–20), and then as a Lay Clerk (2020–24), and has a wealth of prior experience singing as a chorister and then as a choral scholar at Bangor Cathedral during his undergraduate degree.

As well as his position at Queen’s, Samuel is the Vicar Choral at the University Church of St Mary the Virgin, and also edits Early Music Performance & Research, the journal of the National Early Music Association (for which he is a trustee). Samuel holds a Diploma in Singing, is a fellow of the Burgon Society, and is an associate fellow of both the Royal Historical Society and Higher Education Academy. Additionally, he is a member of the Royal Society of Musicians, Church Music Society, and Independent Society of Musicians.
