The Queen’s College has a strong musical tradition and the mixed-voice Choir of The Queen’s College is recognised as one of the finest choral ensembles in the country.
The Choir Administrator is responsible for the overall administration and smooth running of the Choir’s schedule, which includes three services a week in term time (Wednesday, Friday, Sunday), as well as concerts, tours, recordings and broadcasts throughout the year. They work closely with the Choir’s Director, Professor Owen Rees.
Samuel matriculated as a member of Queen’s in 2019, first reading for a MSt before progressing onto a DPhil which he completed in 2025. His thesis focused on Henry Cooke (d.1672) and music in Civil War, Commonwealth, and Restoration England. He spent five years singing with the Choir, first as a Graduate Choral Scholar (2019–20), and then as a Lay Clerk (2020–24), so has a wealth of experience working with the ensemble.
As well as his position at Queen’s, Samuel is the Vicar Choral at the University Church of St Mary the Virgin, and also edits the journal of the National Early Music Association, Early Music Performance & Research.
