Ringing in the festive season with Queen’s!

Between 8th and 15th December, our student callers will be picking up the phones to speak to Old Members about life after Queen’s, swap College stories, and seek careers advice.

While the telethon serves as a chance to update Old Members about all the latest Queen’s news and events, it also provides an opportunity to ask for support for the Queen’s Fund, which underpins the three pillars that sustain College life: student support, access and outreach, and academic excellence. Donations to this Fund ensure that the College can respond appropriately to the areas of greatest need in the College and deliver the best possible experience for Queen’s students.

Meet our student callers

Amelia (Fine Art, 2023)

Hello, I’m Amelia, currently in my third year studying Fine Art at The Ruskin School of Art. I have been a member of the Queen’s College community since 2023, and during this time I have come to deeply value the College’s intimate scale, welcoming atmosphere and rich diverse student body. Queen’s has provided an environment where academic focus and wellbeing are genuinely supported. Some of my most meaningful memories have taken place in the College gardens- spaces I return to in the summer to read, reflect and discuss ideas with friends. These shared experiences, both scholarly and social, have shaped my time at Queen’s.

Ali (Medicine, 2024)

Hello everyone, my name is Ali and I am a second-year medical student here at Queen’s. In Queen’s I am currently one of the social secretaries of the JCR which means I am responsible for organising the social calendar of the year and coordinating our prestigious, highly anticipated end of term events. My favourite part of Queen’s has to be the breathtaking architecture from our beautiful chapel and Front Quad to the picturesque Upper Library. I love the friendly atmosphere at Queen’s, and I am excited to participate in the Telethon and raise money to elevate the experience here at Queen’s for everyone.

Charlotte (Medicine, 2023)

Hi! I’m Charlotte, a third year medic at Queen’s. I really enjoy playing football, and I am captain of the Queens and Magdalen team this year. My favourite part about Queen’s is definitely the people. It’s a very social environment, and everyone is really lovely.

Neil (Medicine, 2022)

Hi! I’m Neil and I’m one of the 4th years lucky enough to be studying medicine at Queen’s. Throughout my time at the College I have participated in a variety of societies and events with the rugby club (for which I am the treasurer this year), the Queen’s Movember fundraiser, the Queen’s Town and Gown 10K run team, chess tournaments and the College’s medical society (QCMS) being some of the most prominent. QCMS events, which range from more academic (conferences, talks, symposiums) to more social (karaoke nights, Christmas dinners, sports days) have been particular excellent in uniting all year groups (1st-6th) into a genuinely welcoming and friendly community. If I had to select a favourite place in the College it would have to be the dining hall, not only for the delicious food, but also for hosting the College’s annual Burns’ night Ceilidh, perhaps my favourite event of the year.

Samuel (French and German, 2024)

Hi! My name is Sam and I’m a French and German student in my second year. I’m a musical theatre fanatic and Secretary for the Eglesfield Musical Society which hosts the annual summer musical in the Drawda garden, my favourite spot in Queen’s for precisely this reason. I also love thrillers and did an Extended Project Qualification on how to write a good one – my own is coming along quite slowly but should be ready by my 40s. I am currently planning my Year Abroad, hopefully studying music in a conservatory or something of the like and teaching English as a foreign language with part of the British council. Whilst cold and dark, Christmas at Queen’s is my favourite time of year and I am looking forward to having some time in Oxford outside of term-time and chatting to Old Members about their time at Queen’s.
