In 1979, The Queens’ College became coeducational, ending 638 years of educating only men.

Since 1979 we have seen significant changes for women across all areas of society. It is a period of time bookended by female prime ministers and we now have significantly more women involved in commerce, politics, science, and the arts. How feminism is viewed has also gone through a number of changes over the years. Many of the women starting their university lives at Queen’s in 1979 have contributed to these changes. We wanted to “look back to the future” to see what 1979 was like in the College and what led up to this momentous change so we collected a series of anecdotes from people across the College.
