Congratulations to all the winners and commendees of the sixth edition of the Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators!
We are delighted to announce the results of this year’s competition, which ran for the sixth time in 2026. The competition ran across six languages – French (into English and into Welsh), German, Italian, Mandarin, Russian and Spanish – and invited entries from secondary pupils aged 11 to 18 at any UK school and British Schools Overseas.
Over 25,000 students took part in the 2026 competition, with schools submitting up to five entries per language for each level. Our team of 36 judges, including leading professional literary translators and Oxford Modern Languages students, assessed over 5,400 entries to the competition.
The Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators is an initiative of the Queen’s Translation Exchange.
