Associate Professor and Tutorial Fellow in French
The College is pleased to announce that Dr Seth Whidden has been elected the Fellow and Tutor in French with effect from 1st October 2016.
Dr Whidden is a specialist in nineteenth-century French literature and editor of the journal Nineteenth-Century French Studies. He holds a doctorate from Brown University and comes to us from Villanova University, where he has been since 2003. Much of Dr Whidden’s work has focused on poetry of the second half of the century, particularly on the status of the lyric subject; on literary collaboration and parody; and on formal matters of texts during the undoing of traditional French verse and the rise of the prose poem and free verse.
