Presidential visit

18 October 2019

Following on from the successful Aldabra Clean-Up project, His Excellency, Danny Faure, President of The Seychelles, visited the College and met Dr Lindsay Turnbull (pictured with the President) and graduate student April Burt who led the Oxford team.

The Aldabra Clean-Up project took place earlier this year; it was a student-led expedition to the remote Aldabra Atoll to remove tonnes of ocean trash from its shores.  Over the course of five weeks over 25,000 kg of marine debris were removed by a team of 12 people, assisted by Seychelles Island Foundation staff.  Read the expedition report here.

The President was in Oxford to give a public lecture in the African Studies Centre at St Antony's College; his talk was entitled Protecting our Oceans: The Seychelles Experience.
