Prof John Blair awarded a Leverhulme Emeritus Fellowship

5 May 2022

The College warmly congratulates Emeritus Professor John Blair who has been awarded a Leverhulme Emeritus Fellowship for travel in Germany, Scandinavia, and the Low Countries.  The purpose of his travel will be to gather material for a projected book on medieval regional cultures.

The book will be about regional identity, buildings, and material culture in medieval England. It will question whether, in cultural terms, the concept of 'England' necessarily makes sense, and will take the different approach of looking at regions in relation to their Continental neighbours: east Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and East Anglia as part of a North Sea Region; the south as part of a Channel region; the west midlands as part of an Atlantic region.

This is the third award Professor Blair has received from the Leverhulme Trust.
